Matt graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a BSc (Hons) Music, Commercial Composition and Technology. After graduating, he started a career in theatre production and live music. His career has so far included: musical theatre, children’s theatre, outdoor theatre, puppetry, burlesque; as well as: big band/jazz, rock, metal and folk music. Matt’s range of experience has brought him into such roles as: sound engineer, technical stage manager, stage technician, puppet technician, lighting technician.
Some personal favourites have involved sound design for Brian Blessed‘s directorial debut of The Hollow by Agatha Christie, sound number one on a musical production of Barnum, and touring as sound and stage technician with the Richard Alston Dance Company.
Matt has also worked as sound engineer on several shows by Olivier nominated theatre company, Les Enfants Terribles. This has included the critically acclaimed macabre musical The Vaudevillains, children’s show Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs 2: The Magic Cutlass, and as technical stage manager and puppet technician on the national tour of David Walliams’ First Hippo on the Moon.
There are also several venues which Matt has worked at, these include: Newbury Corn Exchange, Tobacco Factory Theatres, The Mill at Sonning, Wiltshire Creative (which encompasses Salisbury Arts Centre and Salisbury Playhouse), Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, and Pavilion Dance South West.
